GAMIAN-Europe is a non-profit organisation that aims to improve the lives of people affected by mental ill-health by advocating for their rights and needs. GAMIAN-Europe serves as a platform for patient organisations and advocates, aiming to provide support, empower patients, and raise awareness on mental health. The organisation comprises a diverse network of national and regional member groups from over 20 European countries (over 60 members), working together to promote mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and ensure that patients have access to appropriate care and services.
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Policy and Communications Intern to join our team in Brussels, Belgium. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in EU policies, particularly in relation to health and a passion for mental health advocacy. As part of the role the candidate will be able to attend trainings and development opportunities in the mental health field
Key Responsibilities:
Policy:
- Track daily news updates on EU policy with a focus on health and draft news items summarising policy news in the EU
- Help prepare and facilitate MEP Alliance meetings in the EU parliament
Communications:
- Support the development and implementation of GAMIAN-Europe’s communications strategy in cooperation with the rest of the team
- Assist with website management, newsletter creation, and social media posting
- Support strategic communications campaigns on various topics around different mental health conditions
- Assist with proofreading, editing, and occasional research tasks
- Help with administrative tasks within communication such as reaching out to, arranging meetings etc with GAMIAN-Europe’s board and members and other assistance as required
- Communicate with suppliers (web developers, graphic designers, etc) mainly to provide feedback
EU Research Projects:
- Support GAMIAN-Europe’s tasks in EU Horizon 2020 projects related to communication
- Assist in the development and implementation of strategic communications plans for EU projects and occasionally sending emails to project’s partners
Other tasks

Helping out with setting up meetings, organising events for GAMIAN-Europe and other general day-to-day when necessary
Requirements:
- Recent graduate or young professional with a strong interest and knowledge of EU policies, particularly in relation to health
- Proficiency in English and fluency in another EU language.
- Microsoft Office Suite competency.
- Social media proficiency.
- Experience with WordPress and Canva
- Capacity to work independently, multitask, prioritise, with attention to details
Desirable skills:
- Online marketing experience, skills with software such as Mailchimp SurveyMonkey
- Previous experience in policy research
- Any prior skills in assisting with editing, and social media management are considered assets.
Conditions
Entitlement to work in the European Union;
- Candidates must be entitled to work in Belgium;
- The trainee has to be based in Brussels for the duration of the 6 months
